Our world is rapidly losing diversity. Multinational corporations are occupying city centers and transforming them into uniform shopping and entertainment zones. There's hardly a metropolis where McDonald's, Starbucks, Zara, Apple, and the like don't dominate the streets and squares. And individuals themselves have long since submitted to this imperative of equality, wearing what the big fashion chains hang on their shelves, drinking what's advertised as hip, and dancing to the sounds created by US hit studios.
Martin Kulinna knows that this march toward monotony is almost impossible to stop. But that's precisely why he persistently travels with his camera to those places where cultural diversity is not only claimed but also truly lived. His images show us people who buck the global trend, who cling to the rituals and customs of their ancestors and proudly assert themselves as an independent community of values with their costumes, dances, and songs.
